A dental implant is a small titanium or zirconia post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Over time, the implant fuses with the bone through a process called osseointegration, creating a stable foundation for a replacement tooth.

An abutment is the connector piece attached to the top of the implant. It extends above the gum line and supports the final restoration, such as a crown, bridge, or denture. Abutments can be prefabricated or custom-made to achieve the best fit, function, and appearance.

Together, implants and abutments provide a durable, natural-looking solution for restoring missing teeth, improving chewing ability, speech, and smile aesthetics.

Patient-Specific Custom Abutments

We design and mill custom abutments for all major systems, including Dentsply Sirona, Nobel Biocare, Straumann, Zest and various third-party manufacturers.

  • Digital Precision: Every abutment is digitally sculpted to match the patient's unique gingival contours and the specific mesial-distal or buccal-lingual requirements of the site.
  • Natural Morphology: Unlike stock components, custom abutments mimic the shape of a prepared natural tooth. This provides superior support for the final crown and leads to a more aesthetic, life-like result.
  • Material Versatility: Available in titanium, gold-hued titanium, or zirconia. Our zirconia abutments are always bonded to high-quality titanium bases to ensure maximum interface strength; we do not use all-ceramic interfaces.
  • Digital Integration: We accept scan files from all major intraoral scanners and support nearly every scanbody brand on the market 

Clinical Customization & Troubleshooting

  • Stock Abutments: When clinical conditions allow and a budget-friendly option is preferred, we are experienced in utilizing stock components from almost any manufacturer.
  • Gingival Aesthetics: If your patient presents with recession, missing papilla, or exposed metal, we can utilize tissue-shaded porcelain (indexed to the Ivoclar Gingiva guide) to recreate natural gumlines and close black triangles.
  • Screw Stability: To combat the common issue of screw loosening, we recommend the use of Loctite 4061 as a clinically effective substitute for the discontinued Nobil Grip. [Read: Managing Loose Abutment Screws by Dr. Randolph Resnik].
